I was intrigued to discover this mysterious red skyglow in my picture, which wasn’t visible to the naked eye. Since it happened about 30 minutes before moonrise, I think it was caused by the light of the rising moon shining on some thin clouds or haze in the sky. It\u2019s the same effect as a vibrant sunrise, only many times fainter (by about 1,000,000x), but the colour is made prominent by the long exposure.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The second picture is an even longer exposure that smears out the star trails in the sky. I love the dreamlike quality of this picture, which captures a bit of the magic of being there in person.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The last picture was taken after the moon had just risen, and it shines on the rocks with its reddish light.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
