I was intrigued to discover this mysterious red skyglow in my picture, which wasn’t visible to the naked eye. Since it happened about 30 minutes before moonrise, I think it was caused by the light of the rising moon shining on some thin clouds or haze in the sky. It’s the same effect as a vibrant sunrise, only many times fainter (by about 1,000,000x), but the colour is made prominent by the long exposure.

The second picture is an even longer exposure that smears out the star trails in the sky. I love the dreamlike quality of this picture, which captures a bit of the magic of being there in person.

The last picture was taken after the moon had just risen, and it shines on the rocks with its reddish light.
