Globular clusters are spherical collections of hundreds of thousands of ancient stars orbiting the Milky Way. Around 13 billion years in age, they are almost as old as the Milky Way itself.
The three globulars shown here are M22, M13, and M4, in order. Because M22 is located near the center of the galaxy, it is embedded in a rich foreground of stars.
